The Med Sea Alliance has made significant strides in driving positive change for the Mediterranean's marine ecosystems. Control & Enforcement

Trawlers Sanctioned for Violating National Closures and Increased Controls

The Med Sea Alliance has successfully lobbied for stronger enforcement of fisheries regulations in the Mediterranean. Their advocacy efforts have contributed to the adoption of stricter monitoring and control measures aimed at reducing illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities in the region.

25% of the Spanish Mediterranean marine area has been declared as a protected area

Currently, the protection of Spanish Mediterranean waters has reached a percentage of ~33%. Even though the percentage of marine areas designated as protection is seen as an outstanding achievement, we have work to do as most protected areas still lack a management plan and proper funding for implementation
