Our mission

At the Med Sea Alliance, we aim to restore and protect the Mediterranean Sea by advocating for sustainable policies and practices that ensure the long-term health of its marine ecosystems. As a group of NGOs, we work alongside governments, local communities, and international organizations to combat the threats posed by illegal fishing, habitat destruction, and climate change.

Our vision is a Mediterranean Sea with a rich and resilient ecosystem, where the rules and practices of fishing support the health of the marine environment for generations to come. Through our efforts, we aim to create a future where the Mediterranean’s biodiversity thrives, contributing to a balanced and sustainable relationship between nature, people, and economies.

Protecting Marine Ecosystems

We are committed to safeguarding the Mediterranean's unique marine life and habitats and fish stocks, advocating for the creation and effective management of marine protected areas (MPAs) and Fisheries Restricted Areas (FRAs). By working with stakeholders across the region, we aim to ensure that these vital ecosystems are preserved and restored for future generations.

Advocating for Sustainable Fishing Practices

Illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing poses a major threat to the Mediterranean. Our mission is to strengthen the enforcement of fishing regulations and promote responsible, sustainable fishing practices. We work with governments, and international bodies to implement and uphold policies that protect fish stocks for food security.

Building A Campaign Movement

The Med Sea Alliance is a campaign movement, bringing together non-government organisations and other civil society groups seeking to improve the health and productivity of the Mediterranean Sea. Through analysis, investigations, advocacy, and communications we are pushing for stronger conservation measures.
